FAQs
Do I need a dressing aid (lubricant) when wearing a zip-front latex jacket?
For the sleeves, yes. While the torso is open and easy to put on, you must apply a small amount of silicone lube or talcum to the inside of the sleeves. This ensures your arms slide in smoothly, preventing the friction that can stress the shoulder seams and cuffs.
How should I treat the metal zippers, snaps, or buckles when storing the coat?
Create a protective barrier. Metal reacts with latex, causing irreversible brown or copper-toned chemical stains. Before storing, wrap all metal hardware (especially those touching the latex) tightly with acid-free tissue paper to prevent contact.
Is a latex jacket suitable for keeping warm outdoors in cool weather?
No. Latex is non-breathable and traps body heat, but it is not an insulator like fabric. If worn in cold weather, moisture (sweat) will build up quickly inside and make you feel colder. Latex outerwear is best suited for indoor wear or mild temperatures.
Is it safer to wear a latex jacket over bare skin or a cotton shirt?
Over bare skin (with lube) is better. Wearing latex over cotton or wool creates high friction and can dull the latex's shine and potentially lead to abrasion. If you need a layer underneath, wear a very smooth, slippery nylon or spandex top that is well-dusted with talcum powder.
